Cyprus Wedding Venue Review – Paphos (Pafos)

Elysium Hotel

The Elysium Hotel is one of finer hotels in Paphos or indeed on the island of Cyprus. For a professional wedding photographer, you will be hard pressed to find a lovelier venue to cover a wedding. The attention to detail in this hotel is outstanding. There are so many places around the grounds and within the hotel itself which cry out to be used for photography. I would love to shoot here more often, but I believe the hotel attempt to restrict third party photographers like myself from shooting there. There is normally a way around this situation, there must be, as I have photographed there a few times and I have loved it everytime. When you enter the hotel, first you are struck by it’s grandeur, then the classic styling which set the tone for a perfect Cyprus Wedding.
I have to say the guest rooms are massive compared to most hotels I have photographed in. Making taking Bride preparation photographs a lot easier to execute. As with the rest of the hotel, class shows through in the room decoration and the standard of the furniture which in turn, shows through on the photographs. I think if you have a nice setting to photograph in you have won half the battle before you start.
Once the the groom and the guests are settled in their places, the bride is led out of her room and normally, through the library. This is a lovely place to stop and take some pre-wedding photographs with the bride and her father. This room itself is again, very grand and is looked upon by three or four floors. From here, the bridal party is led down a walk lined with pillars which again is a great opportunity to grab a few photos before the ceremony. This then leads down to the wedding area itself, which it an amphitheatre with a classic black & white chequered marble flooring. Beautiful!
The wedding supervisor, Mirella, is very friendly and extremely helpful. She makes everything run smoothly without a hitch.
I feel the Elysium have done an outstanding job with the dining area for the reception. They have managed to keep the area private and out of the way but not so you feel cut off. As the evening closes in, the lovely golden sun streams through and bathes the table in directional light. With plenty of room to manoeuvre, I can keep out of the way of the guests so as to not put an pressure on them as they socialise at the table.
One of the nice features of the Elysium Hotel is the private beach it benefits from. When it comes to sunsets, Paphos has a distinct advantage over the rest of Cyprus as the sun goes down over the sea. This gives unimpeded views for spectacular sunset photography. Without doubt, one of my favourite hotels in Cyprus.
