Kelly & Daniel’s wedding was a magical day that was alive and electric. Everyone was energetic and brimming with the party atmosphere. For any wedding photographers in Protaras this would be an ideal situation so I guess I struck lucky on this day. I started in the Grecian Park Hotel’s salon with the ever lovely Mary, who was fixing Kelly’s hair to perfection. From here we made our way to Kelly’s room where all the bride’s maids and the mother of the bride were also getting ready. I busied myself doing the usual shots of the shoes and flowers etc, when Kelly did her grand unveil of THE dress. I have to say, I have never seen quite such a reaction in all my time as a wedding photographer in Cyprus. There were screams, tears and plenty of happiness… it was wonderful to see such emotion and be able to capture it for them. The ceremony itself was beautiful, with glorious sunshine and the Grecian Park’s stunning views over Konnos Bay, it could not have been any more perfect for Kelly & Daniel.
Following the ceremony, they had their reception in the Umi Sushi bar. I love this room for its bright airiness, although, it is certainly a challenge for any photographer….but if you get it right, the photos will look stunning!
The rest of their evening was spent in the Gazebo, outside in the grounds of the hotel, where they ate and had speeches. Both Kelly & Daniel are teachers which possibly had something to do with how amazing the speeches actually were. Just a theory! There were five speakers, each as funny as the one before and each excellently delivered with plenty of emotion to boot. By the end of the day I was shot to pieces with the all the crying going on. What a great day… congratulations Kelly & Daniel!

Ayia Napa Wedding Photography – Grecian Sands Hotel – Charlotte & Daniel

What a lucky wedding photographer I am to have such a good looking couple! Charlotte & Daniel certainly made my life very easy as they, and their guest, were extremely comfortable with me photographing them. I was able to be largely ignored all day as they got on and enjoyed themselves. For this is perfect and is the ideal situation.
As with all bride’s, Charlotte had gone to a lot of effort to make her wedding day special, but she went the extra mile to ensure her wedding day was unique. With a vintage theme, Charlotte had her bouquet hand made (by her mum I think). When paired with her dress the whole look was absolutely amazing. The detail in the table decorations also echoed this theme but with quirky touches to make their wedding stand out. From the use of scrabble letters for place cards to the use of old coke bottle filled with sand to give that castaway feel. It was original and beautiful.
Their wedding was the day after Victoria and Simon’s wedding. I was so excited about the results I got back from their romantic shoot, I went straight back to see what the locations were like in different light and to try a few more different ideas I had knocking around. Again, Charlotte & Daniel were great. They were able to deliver exactly what I asked from them and did it with a swagger (in the nicest way). I was over the moon with the results, so please feel free to look through the images below. I am sure you will like them also…

The day started for me in Victoria’s hotel room, where she was having the finishing touches to her make-up applied by one of her friends. She looked great! Next on the agenda was the hair. We made our way to the Grecian Park Hotel’s hair salon. Resident hair stylist began doing her usual great job and Victoria’s hair was no exception. Everyone was looking stunning!
Victoria’s Grandad plays golf with my Grandad, which organically led to her finding out about me. It is nice to have a connection before I start work on the day, no matter how tenuous. There was an instant bond with the whole group as they all seemed to be very friendly, calm and relaxed. I was able to snap away quietly in the background all day without phasing the guests in the slightest. The ceremony itself was glorious…with bright sunshine and the jaw dropping views across Konnos Bay. It is certainly one of the nicest views in Cyprus for a couple to get married in front of. Beautiful!
Later on that day, I took Victoria & Simon out for a romantic photoshoot. I have to say, Victoria surprised me how well she took to it. She literally got up there and strutted her stuff coolly and confidently. We tried out several different locations which I normally do not have the chance to do most of the time. I am so glad they were open minded as I was able to experiment a little. I think the results speak for themselves as I was able to shoot a truly wonderful set of wedding photographs that I am sure they will cherish forever.

Paphos Wedding Photography – Aphrodite Hills Resort – Poly & Evan

This was my first Greek Orthodox wedding of 2011 and what a magnificent venue to celebrate it. The Aphrodite Hills Resort, near Paphos is one of the most exclusive venues in Cyprus and it is plain to see why. It exudes quality and opulence in every corner. After being given a buggy ride to Poly’s room (I love this kind of treatment!!), it was just myself and the videographer pondering how we were going to make this work. Her room was not small by any hotel’s standards, but we knew what was about to happen. Poly arrived with her entourage following closely behind. The room filled up VERY quickly! They began with the traditional and ceremonial proceedings which include tying a red cloth around the bride’s waist three times and burning olive leaves in a special silver vessel. This vessel is then waved around the top of the bride’s head in a circular motion three times also. I believe repeating it three times symbolises the holy trinity and brings health and fertility. All the while this was happening, there was a traditional bouzouki player and a fiddler filling the air with beautiful Cypriot music. I have to say, despite the beautiful atmosphere being created I struggled here…to find space to work, jostling for position and with the temperature. With 20-30 people in a space of 15 feet by 5 feet, it got very hot, very quickly! …but it was a wonderful experience to witness and I will never get bored of it.
The wedding itself was in the St Catherine’s Orthodox Church on the hotel site and is a lovely little church with plenty of character. During the ceremony, as usual for me in a Greek Orthodox service, I had no idea what was happening or what was being said, but having attended quite a few by now, I know the moments to press my shutter button. I managed to create some wonderful images throughout the day for Poly & Evan, some of which I am sure will make their way to my portfolio.

Protaras Wedding Photography – St Elias Gardens – Emilia & Mika

With five people in attendance, the wedding of Emilia & Mika was hands down the smallest wedding I had ever been to. When I say five people attending, not including the registrar, there was the happy couple, their son Eino, Sharon from MedWeds and Myself. This made for a very interesting ceremony as we commandeered Sharon to film the wedding with Mika’s phone and I was doing my usual photography, but this is my first time as a witness. I have to say after all this time on the right side of the lens, it felt extremely surreal being in front of it while I was signing the register. It was almost like an outer body experience!
I had my worries about how the wedding photography session would pan out as it was, for the most part, just Emilia, Mika, Eino and me. The reason I say this is, my style, predominately is natural, reportage wedding photography. For this type of photography I need plenty of people to disappear amongst…but with the four of us, there was no hiding. However, this did not spoil anything as they were both very relaxed people who were very much in love. We had a great time going from place to place shooting them in different locations…..but I think we most enjoyed the running along beach, through the shallow water. Some truly wonderful memories…

Protaras Wedding Photography – Grecian Park Hotel – Nicola & Lawrence

The wedding of Nicola & Lawrence was a gorgeous Northern Irish wedding which saw all the men dressed in traditional Kilts, Sporrans and Gillie shirts. There was a lovely atmosphere which is perfect for my style of wedding photography. The ceremony itself took place in a quaint Greek Orthodox Church named Ayios Constantinos (Dherynia) and certainly left me with a challenge as far as the light was concerned. With the bright sun pouring in directly behind and behind, to the couple’s right, it did not afford me the ideal conditions for producing great wedding photography. However, with a bit of fiddling with the camera settings and a little post production work on the computer afterwards, I believe, the unfavourable lighting conditions turned out to be the opposite and helped create some, lovely, dramatic imagery. It was my first time at this church and I would love to go back. It was beautiful!
The rest of the evening was spent at the Grecian Park Hotel in the Cliff Bar which overlooks the stunning Konnos Bay. The sun was setting and the light became very dim which presented a host of new challenges to overcome. I thrive on this and love working with available light and these low light conditions were fantastic! I managed to create several images just by candle light alone, which for me, have a spectacular atmosphere and a glowing warm feel to them. This is one of my specialities and something I look forward to as a wedding photographer.
The Grecian Park Hotel put on a fantastic wedding for Nicola & Lawrence, and I look froward to visiting there many more times this year and in the future.

Paphos Wedding Photography – Alexander the Great Hotel – Stacy & Christopher

This was my first wedding of 2011, which will be my last full season in Cyprus. As from 2012, I will only be in Cyprus for selected periods of time. Please see here for more information.
Stacy & Christopher were married on Monday 4th April, at the Alexander the Great Hotel in Paphos, Cyprus. It was a low key, but a very warm and personal wedding. There was just 7 people (including the Stacy & Christopher) at the wedding. Normally, to hear of such a small wedding party would fill me with apprehension as it is a lot harder to blend into the background and do my job well. I stand out much more and people are more aware of me. However, at their wedding, I was mainly ignored and they all got on with enjoying themselves regardless of what I was doing. This was exactly what I needed from them and it worked fantastically! I was able to stand back and just watch the day unfold. There was also good communication between us as well, with fun and jokes all day. It was a great atmosphere! This was a lovely for me as I was able to grab the photos I needed and have a great laugh too. We are a perfect combination I think…and it was made all the more special by the full, traditional Scottish wedding attire, complete with the lack of underpants!
The weather in Paphos was a little ominous to say the least as it was threatening rain all week. On the day, it was bright and cloudy but the rain held off just for them. As a consequence, the light was lovely and soft and the clouds were very dramatic. It was visually stunning and wonderful to work with. Paphos Wedding Photography – Elysium Hotel – Rebecca & Daniel

The day began at the lovely Elysium Hotel where we photographed Rebecca and Daniel in their final preparations before there big moment. I must say I was suitably impressed with their room. They had a personal swimming pool!! I didn’t know they existed at the Elysium…. Very nice!
We soon departed for the St George’s Chapel for another lovely service. The guests were accepting of me and extremely easy going, so I had no trouble getting the shots I needed to make sure Rebecca & Daniel have the wedding photos they were dreaming of. Once the service was finished we had a quick photo session on the beach and on to a stunning location a short drive out of Paphos called Vasilias Nikolias Inn in the sleepy village of Nikolias. The sun was just setting and bathed the reception area in golden sunshine. Absolutely beautiful!

Paphos Weding Photography – St Georges Chapel – Rebecca & Matthew

This was my first wedding of 2010 and there is always some slight feelings of apprehension when I do my first wedding of the year. However, this wedding went extremely well and all worries go out the window as soon the door opens to the hotel room. Rebecca was great fun and didn’t seem worried at all about the events that were about to take place. There was a good atmosphere in the room when we arrived and this continued on throughout the day. Not everyone was comfortable with me being there but there was enough going on to keep everyone entertained so I could go on with my work and capture emotion of the day perfectly. Overall I was very happy with the outcome of the days photography and there are definitely some images that will make it to my portfolio. I can’t ask more than that…
